On Wednesday 13th March, Eyetease’s CEO was invited by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), Tech City Investment Organisation (TCIO) and our friends at TechHub to meet His Royal Highness the Duke of York. Prince Andrew was previously scheduled to arrive with the Queen, however owing to recent health related issues, the Queen cancelled her visit. Nevertheless, Prince Andrew, an active member of the Royal Family and heavily involved in business and entrepreneurship, was the perfect representative of an iconic family championing British innovation.

Hosted in TechCity at the offices of Yammer, a freemium enterprise social network service recently sold to Microsoft in 2012, the event was attended by some of the biggest names in British entrepreneurship.

The guys and gals at Yammer were fantastic hosts to all the entrepreneurs and (of course) Prince Andrew. Following 2 hours of networking, sumptuous canapés, breakfast treats and an endless supply of tasty (non-alcoholic) drinks, Prince Andrew arrived to greet the invite only group of entrepreneurs.

Eyetease meets Prince Andrew

TechHub Founder & CEO, Elizabeth Varley, and our very own Founder and CEO, Richard Corbett, was able to speak to Prince Andrew for a few minutes regarding Eyetease and more broader entrepreneurial issues affecting Silicon Roundabout. The Prince actively asked both Founders some very thought provoking questions regarding the future of TechCity and its ability to continue to attract new startups in the midst of price hikes in office rent within the area.

One of Prince Andrew’s core remits is to encourage entrepreneurship in Britain and events such as today’s at Yammer is a great example of the Prince staying in tune with the latest developments and acting as a positive force for change!

A big thank you to Yammer for hosting the event and Prince Andrew for visiting TechCity! Finally, our best wishes to the Queen! Hope you feel better soon – Eyetease is ready to show you around the town in our cab!
