On Wednesday 17th April, Google invited our Founder and CEO Richard Corbett to speak at their Media Conference (named ‘Google@KingsCross’ – #GoogleKX) about how this high growth startup is “driving” British innovation with the iTaxitop.

The conference was designed to showcase some of the latest innovations and disruptive technologies hitting the media industry – from Google Glass to the Eyetease iTaxitop! The event was attended by more than 300 people from the Media and Technology world.

The event was kicked off by some of the biggest names at Google UK who discussed some of the recent innovations and trends within the online and mobile media space. The conference was later picked up by well-known TV presenter Adam Shaw, who talked about macro-economic trends and the impact this has made on innovation in the UK.

Finally, our very own CEO took to the stage to talk about how he has applied the power of online into an offline / outdoor environment with the launch of iTaxitop – the world’s first digital taxi top. Some of the key highlights from the presentation include:

  • With the most important screen in the life of a consumer being their mobile phone, it is important for out-of-home (OOH) to understand its role in the overall media landscape and identify ways to exploit this and work with online/mobile
  • The importance / power of convergence between OOH and online/mobile with OOH acting as a ‘prompt’ to navigate users into a more engaged online/mobile brand experience
  • He mentioned how brands are accustomed to the benefits of online/mobile and demand the same from OOH – relevance, immediacy, accountability, tracking, targeting, etc.
  • He talked about digital out of home (DOOH) and innovations in DOOH raising the bar and giving brands these ‘online’ benefits in an offline environment

And no presentation by Richard Corbett would be complete without talking about taxi advertising!

Richard discussed how he was inspired to create the world’s first digital broadcast taxi media solution following trips to New York in 2009. He discussed how Eyetease has broken new boundaries in the UK and internationally to turn notoriously #unpredictable taxi media into targeted and relevant media using the iTaxitop – Richard notes “every street in every city is set to become a new and exciting point of targeted communication with consumers”. He goes onto say that Eyetease is the first to develop digital taxitop technology which he believes will be a game changing format in the out-of-home market.

Other presenters at the event included: Hamish Nicklin (Google), Mark Howe (Google), Phil Miles (Google), Mary Burris (Google), Matt Bush (Google), Tuomas Wuoti (Walkbase), Blake Wooster (Prozone).
