As part of Santander’s Breakthrough programme, the Bank has teamed up with Smarta.com to find Britain’s 50 fastest growing companies. With hundreds of high quality entries from across the country, each company had to show the judges growth (or potential) and a minimum turnover of £500k to enter.
The Breakthrough 50 judges included; Ana Botin (CEO of Santander Bank UK), Shaa Wasmund (Founder of Smarta), Simon Devonshire (Wayra), Tom Teichman (Spark Ventures, Paul Lindley (Ella’s Kitchen), Rajeeb Dey (Enternships.com), The Rt Hon Baroness Vadera and Dr Hermann Hauser (Amadeus Capital).
Following the release of the Breakthrough 50 Winners in May, the all star panel of judges selected the 5 finalists who would go head to head to win “Overall Business of the Year”. Alongside some “giants” in the British startup scene including Brewdog, SwiftKey, Unruly and Tracsis – Eyetease was without doubt the smallest of the bunch! But boy were we proud of it! On 22nd May 2014, the 5 finalists were put through their paces in a gruelling day of pitches and Q&As with the judges to find the best of the best (of the best, etc…)!
The judges comment:
“Eyetease instantly connected with the judges as a disruptive startup with global growth potential. Eyetease exemplified what entrepreneurial talent and determination can accomplish.”
On Wednesday 4th June 2014, the 50 fastest growing companies were all invited to an award ceremony at the Kensington Roof Gardens, where the “Overall Business of the Year” would be announced.
In a room filled with Britain’s 50 fastest growing companies, it was without doubt an incredible place to network! And its worth noting that the combined turnover of the 50 companies in the room was £500m – which is all the more impressive when you think most of these companies did not exist 5 years ago!
With a booming British startup scene, Eyetease was thrilled to be ranked as the ‘Top 5 fastest growing company’! Following 2 years investing in developing two new and disruptive products (iTaxitop and CabWifi), Eyetease has been fortunate enough to see the business grow in excess of 1000% YOY over the last 3 years to a turnover of over $4.2m.
However, it simply was not our time. The Overall Business of the Year award went to the global leaders in transport optimisation systems – Tracsis! Having grown to an impressive revenue of £18m and employing more than 170 people, it was a very worthy winner!
The boys and girls at Eyetease certainly has their work cut out for them and the team will be working hard to come back bigger and badder than ever next year!
